Mission

The mission of Montcalm County Housing Commission, MCHC, is to assist low to moderate income families with safe, decent, sanitary, and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives.  MCHC is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical, and professional manner.  MCHC will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies to accomplish this mission.

What We Provide

​Housing Choice Voucher Program (aka Section 8):
Under this program you rent with a private landlord in Montcalm County and 30 miles radius from our office and Ionia county.  It can be a house, apartment, or mobile home.   The waiting list can be up to a year depending on availability & funding.  When the waiting list is open, it will be advertised in the local newspapers.  It will be Closed on 10/31/24.
Project Base Voucher Program:
​1/2/3 Bedroom units, family scattered sites, in Howard City, Michigan, Montcalm County managed by MCHC.  The waiting list for our Project Based Voucher  is up to a year or more depending on vacancies.   
Mulberry Estates: 1 Bedroom Units for Seniors/Disabled. 
​Family Scattered Sites:  2/3 Bedrooms
The waiting list for Project Based Voucher is a year or more.


NOTE:  We do NOT have emergency housing.  We work off a waiting list.  You may pick up an application at our office during regular office hours for the MHC Project Based Voucher Program and the Housing Choice Voucher Program (aka Section 8)   Under the Voucher Program, if you are already renting, you may stay at your unit if it is eligible.   Voucher issuance depends on availability of vouchers and funding.   Rent is based on 30% of the monthly income.
